    Martin,

You can start the service from server manager. If you can't get to a local
NT Server in Your domain follow this path:

    \\%servername%\admin$\system32\srvmgr.exe replace %servername% with
whatever the closest domain controller is and you should only try this on a
high speed connection. Also appropriate permissions must exist.

    thanks for taking an interest.
the VNC-service was installed, password set yesterday and all worked
fine until reboot today. After the reboot the VNC-service was down and I
have not been able to restart it through serverman (eventlog says NT
waited for 120000ms for reaction but had no reply from VNC-service).

Have you used the -install flag to install WinVNC as a service? Have
    you
set a default password for the machine? Have you changed any of the
    settings for the WinVNC service?

Finally, when you say "the service cannot be restarted", what do you
    mean?
That you can't connect to it remotely? Or that it doesn't appear in the
    task list, or something else?

    Cheers,
